Supporting Innovation for a Stronger NHS: NHS Innovation Accelerator Announces 2025 Fellows

The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) has announced their 2025 cohort, comprising 28 outstanding innovators dedicated to enhancing health and social care services. This marks the largest intake in the programmeโ€™s history, reflecting the growing commitment to leveraging innovation for better patient and staff experiences.

The 2025 Fellows will officially launched at Digital Health โ€“ Rewired, joining a prestigious three-year programme designed to support the scale and impact of their solutions. These innovators follow in the footsteps of past Fellows, including DrDoctor, Patients Know Best, and Nervecentre, which in 2024 secured over ยฃ250 million in NHS contracts, leading the way in Electronic Patient Record (EPR) solutions.

A Decade of Impact: Aligning with NHS Priorities

This yearโ€™s announcement coincides with the NIAโ€™s tenth anniversary, a milestone that underscores its success in accelerating healthcare innovation. The 2025 cohort aligns with three key priorities outlined by the UK Government:

  1. Transitioning from analogue to digital โ€“ embracing digital solutions to improve efficiency and care delivery.
  2. Shifting from sickness to prevention โ€“ supporting innovations that focus on early intervention and proactive healthcare.
  3. Moving from hospital to community-based care โ€“ advancing solutions that enable patient care closer to home, reducing hospital burden.

These priorities reflect the NHSโ€™s strategic direction, ensuring that new solutions not only drive efficiency but also contribute to long-term sustainability and improved patient outcomes.

Tailored Support to Scale Innovation

NIA Fellows benefit from a range of tailored resources designed to accelerate their innovations. This includes:

  • Expert guidance and mentorship from leading healthcare professionals.
  • Peer support from an extensive network of innovators.
  • Access to key stakeholders across the NHS and wider healthcare ecosystem.

Mindy Simon, Co-Director of the NHS Innovation Accelerator, highlighted the significance of this yearโ€™s cohort, โ€œWelcoming a new cohort of Fellows is always an exciting moment, and this year, as we celebrate 10 years of the programme, it feels even more special. At the NIA, we are committed to supporting innovators navigate the complexities of the system and drive real impact for the benefit of patient care and the workforce.โ€

Jack Porter, Co-Director of the NIA, added: โ€œInnovation is crucial to the future of healthcare, and ensuring it reaches the people who need it most is not always simple. Over the next year, we will be working closely with system leaders, NHS organisations and all our partners to create opportunities for our Fellows and their solutions to gain real traction.โ€

NHS Leaders Welcome the 2025 Cohort

National Medical Director of NHS England and Chair of the NHS Innovation Accelerator, Professor Sir Stephen Powis emphasised the role of innovation in shaping the future of healthcare: โ€œThe future success of the NHS lies in harnessing innovation and adopting new ways of working to enable more efficient and best-practice healthcare delivery. Congratulations to the 28 innovators that make up this 2025 cohort โ€“ this Fellowship is a fantastic opportunity to develop, accelerate and deliver solutions to enhance our NHS and improve patient care and staff experience.โ€

This endorsement underscores the importance of the NIAโ€™s role in bridging the gap between innovation and real-world NHS implementation.

Insights from NIA Alumni

The impact of the NIA is evident through the experiences of its alumni. Zoe Wright, Founder and CEO of The Real Birth Company and a former NIA Fellow, shared her perspective: โ€œBeing part of the NHS Innovation Accelerator has been an incredible experience โ€“ one that has provided invaluable insights and great connections. More than anything though, the programme has given me a clearer understanding of navigating the complexities of healthcare adoption, while also delivering real results in supporting the acceleration of my solution into the NHS.โ€

Her advice to the new cohort is to โ€œembrace the network, stay resilient, and keep patient benefit at the heart of everything you do. This is a rare opportunity to drive real change โ€“ make the most of it!โ€
