Following the Darzi report, the government has pledged to transition to a “digital NHS”. What specific reforms could be made to revitalise the NHS for the modern era?
“This report has not held back,” Lord Darzi writes in the opening section of the Independent Investigation of the National Health Service in England, a promise that the report certainly lives up to.
The UK’s fibre broadband market has grown quickly, thanks to competition from smaller providers known as altnets. However, this growth has also led to challenges, such as overlapping networks and increased costs. Ofcom now faces the task of balancing the need for continued investment and innovation with ensuring fair competition and preventing inefficiencies as it plans its next regulatory review.
Today the government announced that it would withdraw the 1.3 billion previously pledged to AI and tech development. This decision was immediately criticised as setting back the UK’s AI industry.
