Overview
NHS Health Bill Inquiry Session 4
Join UK Healthcare and Life Sciences Innovation (UKHLSI) and Curia for the fourth session in our NHS Modernisation Bill member evidence series, focused on prevention, population health, wider determinants of health and the adoption of innovation.
This members-only roundtable will bring together UKHLSI and Curia members, NHS leaders, public health experts, local government, frontline professionals, innovators and policy stakeholders to explore how the health and care system can move further from treating sickness towards preventing ill health. Lunch is provided, with an online dial-in available from 12.30–1.30pm.
Prevention is central to the Government’s ambition to create a more sustainable health service, but delivering this shift will require action far beyond traditional healthcare settings. Population health is shaped by a wide range of factors including housing, employment, education, environment, access to services and socioeconomic circumstances.
The challenge is therefore not simply identifying what works, but ensuring that proven interventions and innovations can be adopted at scale, embedded across systems and targeted towards the communities that stand to benefit most.
The discussion will consider:
• How the NHS can move from treating sickness towards preventing ill health
• How population health and prevention can be embedded across NHS reform
• How the wider determinants of health, including housing, employment and environment, can be better reflected in decision-making
• How the NHS, local government, public health, community services and other partners can work more effectively together
• How innovation, technology and data can support earlier intervention and prevention
• How proven preventative interventions can be adopted and scaled more effectively across the health and care system
• How reform can help reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes across different communities
The session will inform a member recommendations paper on prevention, population health, health inequalities, wider determinants, partnership working, innovation adoption and the practical implementation of the NHS Modernisation Bill.
This event is part of UKHLSI and Curia’s wider programme of member engagement on the NHS Modernisation Bill, moving the conversation from legislation to implementation.
