Organised by UK Healthcare and Life Sciences Innovation (UKHLSI), in partnership with policy institute Curia, and hosted in Parliament by Chair of the Parliamentary Group for Tackling Loneliness and Connected Communities, Paul Davies MP, this Mental Health Parliamentary Summit will mark the launch of the UKHLSI Mental Health Working Group, chaired by Steve Gilbert OBE.
The summit will convene leaders from across the NHS, integrated care systems, government, primary and social care, local government, the voluntary sector, independent sector, lived experience, patient safety, and digital health to explore how the UK can reduce unwarranted variation in access, assessment and outcomes across mental health services.
The discussion will draw on early findings from the Working Group’s survey of mental health leaders, including variation in assessment and detention, access to alternatives to hospital during crisis, workforce vacancies and confidence in delivering the duties of the Mental Health Act 2025. It will also consider indicators including bed occupancy, out-of-area placements and community waiting times, alongside the impact of wider health reform and devolution on the consistency of care.
The summit aims to build shared understanding, strengthen cross-sector collaboration and support practical next steps for government, systems and Parliament. Evidence gathered through the session will help inform the Working Group’s implementation paper, setting out practical recommendations for reducing variation, improving patient safety and ensuring that reforms translate into more consistent mental health care across the country.
