Location:

In-person and online

With Andy Burnham now widely seen as a potential future Prime Minister, this briefing session will give members, NHS leaders, local authority leaders and selected policy stakeholders a practical understanding of how he has governed, what has shaped his political approach, and what his record in Greater Manchester may tell us about his priorities in national government.

Speakers include:

  • Rt Hon Andrew Stephenson CBE, Chair, Curia Health, Care and Life Sciences, former Minister of State for Health, Department of Health and Social Care, and Chair, University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (Chair)
  • Professor Ann Keen, former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health and member of Andy Burnham’s Department of Health team
  • Sian Jarvis CB, former Director General of Communications at the Department of Health and NHS, and senior adviser working across healthcare, digital health technology and life sciences
  • Paula Sherriff, former Shadow Minister for Social Care and Mental Health, and Programme Manager for Inequalities at West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership
  • Representative of the Greater Manchester Live Well programme

The session brings together people who have worked with Burnham across government, health policy, communications, opposition, and Greater Manchester. The aim is to help leaders understand the governing philosophy behind Burnham’s politics: prevention, place, public service reform, stronger local accountability, integrated services and a more visible link between economic growth and everyday public services.

The discussion will explore what a Burnham premiership could mean for the NHS, social care, local government, devolution, workforce reform, public service delivery, and the future relationship between Whitehall and places.
