Wakefield Council are holding a virtual jobs fair on Thursday 20 October to give people a chance to find out more about a career in adult social care.
Organised by Wakefield Council, the virtual event will be attended by local care providers who are currently recruiting people for a variety of roles.
Staff working in adult social care will also be available to answer questions including what to expect when joining the profession, as well as sharing their first-hand experiences of working in the sector.
They will be available throughout the day, from 10am to 6pm, and people can drop in at any time that suits them for a chat. Anyone with internet access can join via a tablet, laptop, or smartphone. Free wi-fi is also available in the districtโs libraries.
Adult social care workers provide personal and practical support for adults who may need extra care and support either at home, in the local community or in a residential care home.
They assist not only older people but those who are recovering from an illness and are vulnerable, people with physical or learning disabilities, and those with mental health conditions.
In the Wakefield district there are employment opportunities for a number of positions such as, care staff, cooks, domestics, and administrators. Providing these vital jobs, staff will contribute and support nearly 6,000 residents across the district who receive long-term care and support.
Previous experience and qualifications are not always necessary. Candidates will receive a full induction programme, on the job training, and support and funding will be provided for successful applicants to study towards the appropriate qualification, along with ongoing learning and development opportunities.
Cllr Maureen Cummings, Cabinet Member for Communities, Poverty and Health, said: โOur adult social care workers are amongst the most dedicated staff we have in our communities, and they find their work incredibly rewarding, in so many ways. If youโve ever thought about working in the care sector, or are looking for a new role, why not log in and find out if a career in social care is for you.
“Youโll discover all the incredible jobs that we are recruiting for and get guidance and advice from people on the frontline. If you do decide to take the next steps, we will be with you every step of the way, making sure you get the support and training you need to be the best at your chosen career.โ
