HIVE Portsmouth hails Community Inclusion Grant Launch

The launch of a new grant scheme has been welcomed by the partnership dedicated to supporting Portsmouth’s voluntary and community sector.

HIVE Portsmouth, which supports, connects and equips the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in the city, is backing Portsmouth City Council’s Community Inclusion Grants which launched today.

Lorna Reavley, chief officer of HIVE Portsmouth, said:

“We work with hundreds of community and voluntary organisations across Portsmouth and we know what a big impact a little funding can make. “These grants could be used to help make a huge difference for people in the city and we’ll definitely be encouraging local groups and organisations to apply.”

The Community Inclusion Grant scheme has a £30,000 pot to allocate with voluntary and community groups able to bid for up to £1,000 to support their project. with applications closing on 30 October.

The scheme is designed to enable projects that aim to make Portsmouth a place where all feel welcome with fair opportunities, and is looking for projects that challenge inequality, advance equity, and celebrate diversity in the city.

Projects could be about making facilities more accessible, attracting a wider group of people, highlighting unique aspects of a group or community, or providing support to disadvantaged groups of people. More information is available at www.portsmouth.gov.uk/CIG.

Cllr Chris Attwell, the council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Central Services said:

“HIVE Portsmouth does fantastic work supporting the voluntary and community sector in the city, so their endorsement of the Community Inclusion Grants really means a lot. With their support I hope we can encourage even more applications and help as many projects as possible.”
