Greenwich Council to support disabled residents denied vital benefits

Greenwich Disabled People Against Cuts protested against the budget cuts last February

Royal Borough of Greenwich Council is proposing a range of improvements to the way residents, businesses and visitors can access its services.

The changes follow an error made by the DWP when a 62-year-old, suffered financially, physically, and mentally – and lost other key benefits such as free prescriptions.

The Council is making changes on everything from paying council tax to applying for school places – in a way that suits them.

Supporting the case, the Council’s Welfare Rights Team not only worked to get the resident’s payments backdated but continued to campaign until she won compensation too.

The Welfare Rights Service advises residents on tax credits and benefits, including Universal Credit.
