A planning permission revolution?

This week on Political Sandbox John Penrose MP for Weston-super-Mare is interviewed by former Chairman of the City of London’s planning committee Chris Hayward about his new Street Plan Bill.

This Private Members’ Bill intends to allow small areas, perhaps down to individual streets, the ability to pre-approve development up to a certain height and in a chose style. The hope is that this will give developers confidence to invest, residents confidence to approve development and will save councils a host of unnecessarily difficult planning applications.

John Penrose MP said of the planning process “at the moment if you’re a big developer, and you know thing backwards, you’re not scared at all, but everybody else is and it’s a bit of a daunting old hectare to try and deal with. I think [the Street Plans Bill] will make [building homes] dramatically easier.”
